Your full journal is not your social profile.
Complete Places—including precise coordinates, full dates, addresses, notes, and original photos—stay on your device or in your private iCloud database. Social features work from reduced public previews, and shared Trips include only the content you choose to share.

What is Places?
Places is a location journal, not a navigation or review app. It helps you remember meaningful places through photos, dates, notes, a personal map, and Trips.
Do I need iCloud?
No. Local-only mode keeps your journal on one device. iCloud mode adds synchronization, social features, and collaborative Trips.
How does Photo History work?
You choose the level of photo-library access and the filters. Places groups eligible geotagged photos on your device, uses Apple geocoding to suggest useful names, and gives you a review screen. Nothing becomes a Place or uploads as saved content until you confirm it.
What can other people see?
In iCloud mode, Places automatically creates reduced social previews containing details such as the place name, visit month, approximate area, category, and a small thumbnail. Exact coordinates, full dates, street addresses, notes, and original photos are excluded.
Can friends edit a Trip?
Yes. A Trip owner can invite people or enable a share link through Apple CloudKit sharing. Current shared Trips give accepted participants editing access to the shared Trip content.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes. Settings includes a journal ZIP export, controls for verified legacy data, and Delete All User Data. Cloud deletion requires the owning iCloud account and a network connection.
